When the series began with the Angels it started a stretch of 28 games where 25 of those will be against teams with losing record as of right now and if Gardy is going to keep his job now is the time to show improvement.
The Twins are currently 43-54 after winning the first 2 games of this series against the Angels, and there is no reason why the Twins shouldn't be much closer .500 after this 28 game stretch.
If they won every series during this stretch they would go 19-9, making them 62-63 going into the dog days of August and after this stretch it will truly be the dog days based on the schedule. After this stretch the Twins will only have 13 of 37 games left against teams with losing records.
If the Twins are going to improve on their 66 win performance last year, this stretch is the time to do so. If Gardy and company want to keep their jobs now is the time where he should really be evaluated because these will all be very winnable games barring a fire sale by the deadline which I don't see happening.
One trade the Twins should really consider outside of moving a bullpen arm or Morneau is moving C/OF Ryan Doumit. He has a team friendly contract and could be a great bench player and 2nd catcher on a contending team. The reason he should be moved is because of the play of C/OF rookie Chris Herrmann. While he is mashing in very limited at bats this season, he is showing that he is ready to be on this major league roster for the long term. He is better defensively at both catcher and outfield than Doumit and is a million times a better hitter then Drew Butera. It's time for Herrmann to get extended playing time to see where he fits in our future.
It's time for the Twins to show they have improved from last season, and if they struggle during this "easier" stretch, it is time for a change, period.
