A month ago Twins fan only knew the name Oswaldo Arcia and knew he was one of the top prospects the Twins had down in the minors... He was tearing the cover off the ball down in Rochester the AAA team for the Twins. The Twins had just put Darin Mastroianni on the 15 day DL.. The Twins needed to call up and player and the Twins called up Arcia, with being called up Arcia could be a bat off the bench for the Twins, with some pop. Arcia since being called up on April 15th he hasn't been sitting on the bench to much he has been mostly starting games for the Twins, weather it's been in LF or RF or DH. He has played in 18 games out of the total of 21 games he has been up for. Oswaldo Arcia made his Twins debut on April 15th, Arcia was the youngest Twins at the young age of 21 against the Angles and he didn't waste much time getting his first Major League hit, in fact it was on the first pitch he saw and smoked a single into Right Field. It was only a few days later that Arcia hit his first Major League Homerun that came against the Miami Marlins which was also the Game winning hit as it turned out.
The Twins just finished a four game set with the Red Sox yesterday and Arcia on Wednesday night might of actually had his coming out party. He went 4-4 with 3 singles, 1 double, 1 RBI, and scored a run. But was was really impressive was that all of his hits went to Left field and his RBI single was with an 0-2 count and he shorten up his swing and just punched the ball through the left side of the infield. Last night was Arcia's 22nd birthday and he had himself a wonderful birthday as well. He picked up his first Major League Triple and his 3rd Major League homerun as he picked up two more hits and 2 RBI's. The scary thing is what he said after the game.. "I wasn't even trying to hit the homerun just came off my bat".. if he wasn't trying to hit that well look out when he does cause that homerun was CRUSHED.
Since his call up Arcia is growing up right in front of us he has learned how to changed his approach during games and how to cut down his swing when he has two strikes on him and just make contract rather then trying to hit the ball over the fence.
Here is a look at his stats since his call up on April 15th....
.313 Batting Average
68 At-Bats
20 Hits
4 Doubles
1 Triple
3 Homeruns
11 RBI's
.353 OBP%
.547 SLUG %
.900 OPB%
As I watch Oswaldo play I really do think he has found a new home and it's Minnesota. He has impressed me along with plenty of others already on his play. He really doesn't look like a 22 year old out there playing he more looks like a 10 year vet the way he has played since his call up. He has also shown that he a pretty good arm to out in the Outfield. Still working on tracking and running routes to the balls but he looks solid for now.
To me I really think Arcia is here to stay in Minnesota making the jump in a year from Low A ball to the Major Leagues. This time last year Arcia was playing for Low A Ball for the Twins.. Now he looks like he has found a place in the Major Leagues and really has made it look crazy easy right now. I really Hop the Twins keep him here the rest of the season. Not only because right now he has one of the hottest bats in the Twins lineup.. but more so because he has shown he can make adjustments throughout the game and even throughout his at bat. Oswaldo Arcia will be a Minnesota Twins for a long time, so get use to hearing his name.. His name again Oswaldo Arcia
