The Twins on Wednesday afternoon early evening agreed to terms with free agent pitcher Ricky Nolasco. The Twins and Nolasco agreed to a 4 year 49 million dollar deal... This is a FIRST for many Twin fans.. seeing the Twins spend so much on a free agent, this contract is the BIGGEST free agent contract in Twins history. Nolasco isn't an ACE but he will mostly likely be the best pitcher the Twins have in their rotation as of now... yes I said as of now..
The next pitcher I would like to see signing with the Twins is Phil Hughes.. and yes that Phil Hughes from the New York Yankees... I'm sure many of you reading this right now are thinking I'm a bit nuts.. thinking Hughes would actually want to go from the Yankees to the Twins... well Pavano came from the Yankees to the Twins so it could happen, right??
I really think Hughes would be a GREAT to be honest.. prefect fit for the Twins actually.. you may ask me why do I think that.. and well here you go.. I'll prove my point on why I think he would be a prefect fit for the Twins....
here are his splits away/home stats from just last season...

Away 3 wins 4 loses 3.88 ERA 7 homeruns .262 AVG | Home 1 win 10 loses 6.32 ERA 17 homeruns .317 AVG |
If you take a look at those splits... it's like Hughes is a complete different pitcher away from the bandbox known as Yankee Stadium.. and think his home ball park could be Target Field.. I'm pretty sure those home numbers would go down next season.. It's hard to believe that those splits are from the same pitcher.. they are just stunning how pitching in Yankee Stadium can inflate your stats..
So here is my idea... Hughes is looking for a 2 year deal.. well If I was the Twins GM.. and I'm not.. but If I was I would offer Hughes a 3 or 4 year deal.. and around 30 million dollars... I don't think that sounds horrible unrealistic .. If the Twins offer Hughes a 3 year deal slap on a option for a 4th year... and if they offer him a 4 year deal slap on option for a 5th year.. player or team option.. Hughes is only 27 and won't turn 28 until late June so... he would only be 32 or 33 after the contact was expired..
If the Twins do add Hughes he would be a nice fit in this rotation wouldn't be counted on as the ACE but would be close to being an ACE since the Twins had Johan.. The Twins would look like genius if they could add Hughes to this rotation would improve the rotation a lot before spring training has even started!
