Yasiel Puig is off to one of the greatest starts in major league baseball history, but should he be an All-Star?
Puig had 44 hits in his first 100 mlb at bats with 13 extra base hits including 7 home runs. If he keeps up this pace not only will he be the NL Rookie of the Year, but right in the NL MVP race if the Dodgers remain in contention throughout the rest of this season.
Here are the stats he is on pace for:
BA .436
HR 28
RBI 64
RUNS 76
HITS 176
2B 20
3B 4
OBP .467
SLG .713
OPS 1.180
SB 16
SO 80
If he were to keep up this pace, we would probably be looking at one of the greatest rookie seasons in recent memory especially for one that started in June. Do I think he keeps this pace?
Absolutely not. He will now be seeing teams for the second time and they will pitch him differently and he will have to adjust and I think he will, but not at this pace.
Does he deserve an all star spot? I believe so. The game is suppose to showcase the best, most exciting players in the majors and he is one of those as of now. Also with the game actually meaning something now with the winners getting home field advantage in the World Series the best players need to be on each team and not every team needs to be represented.
As of right now, Puig means All-Star.
