Twins super prospect Miguel Sano will undergo season ending Tommy John surgery, had the medical staff attacked the injury earlier it might not have been season ending.
Tommy John recovery takes roughly about 8 months to recover for a position player and had the Twins taken action earlier he may have still been able to salvage some playing time this season.

If Sano had surgery in Nov., 8 months would put him at a return of June/July. Still doubtful he'd play in majors in 2014 with that timeline.

Tyler Mason of Fox Sports North points out that had Sano undergone surgery in November when the problem in the elbow first became an issue, he probably wouldn't have played in the majors, but he is also missing out on valuable time in the minors.
If Sano had surgery in November, he would be back in July and could get two valuable months at Triple-A, and had he torn it up perhaps even been a September call up. How can you say that even if he wouldn't get to the majors that it's not a big deal that the Twins waited almost four months to take care of his elbow?
This has become a far too common for the Twins. Someone gets hurt, and the Twins seem to always just shut the player down like rest is always the answer. Player gets hurt sits a week then finally gets put on the DL, leaving the team short handed. Player's elbow hurts and they call it just inflammation and shut him down for an extended period of time and then he tries to come back he ends up tearing his UCL and then needs Tommy John. It always ends up costing the Twins player much more time than it should.
It has become an epidemic with our top end prospects. Gibson, Wimmers, Chargois, and now Sano. For whatever reason, the Twins are way behind teams like the Rays and Cardinals who seem to never have big medical issues with their players. The Rays really dig deep into the medical side of the game and have thrived on knowing how to bring along a prospect and give them the right medical attention they need. Meanwhile, the Twins act like it's the 1960's and that rest will heal everything. Somebody needs to get the attention of the front office and figure out what they are doing wrong medically with their players.
All in all, the Twins are behind the times medically, and if they don't get up to speed, all this fan-freaking-tastic talent we have in our farm system will be all for nothing.
